Static cupping is a traditional therapeutic technique that has been used for centuries to promote healing and relieve muscle tension and pain. During a static cupping session, specially designed cups are placed on the skin over targeted areas of the body. These cups create a vacuum seal, which draws the skin and underlying tissue upwards into the cup. This gentle suction helps to lift and separate the layers of tissue, promoting circulation and relieving tension in the muscles and fascia.
As the skin is pulled into the cup, blood flow to the area is increased, promoting circulation and oxygenation of the tissues. This increased blood flow can help to reduce inflammation, release toxins, and relax tight muscles.
Static cupping is particularly effective for relieving muscle tension and stiffness, improving range of motion, and promoting overall relaxation.
During a static cupping session, the cups are placed on specific areas of the body, such as the back, shoulders, or legs, and left in position for a short period of time, typically ranging from a few minutes to up to 15 minutes. As the cups remain stationary, they create a vacuum effect that draws stagnant blood and lymphatic fluid to the surface, helping to remove toxins and improve overall circulation.
Our experienced therapists are trained in the art of static cupping and can customise each session to meet the unique needs of our clients. Whether you're seeking relief from chronic pain, recovering from an injury, or simply looking to relax and rejuvenate your body, static cupping can be a valuable addition to your remedial massage treatment.
The Myofascial Cupping Technique was developed by David Sheehan in 2002.
It involves the gliding of pressurised cups over the body. Unlike traditional cupping techniques, the assistance of massage cream is used to assist with the gliding and also provides comfort at the same time.
When we have an injury, our body will adapt to allow for more functionality.
We may begin to compensate, using different muscles to accommodate and assist the injured parts. Many people experience reduced Range of Movement and Pain.
Does it hurt?
Our therapists are very tentative to your needs and will work with you to make sure you are comfortable with the pressure being used.
I've had cupping in the past and it left bruise like marks on my back, should I expect this to happen with Myofascial Cupping?
Generally Myofascial Cupping does not leave bruise marks on your skin. However there are a few skin types which are more prone to bruising than others, your therapist can advise you on this.
How long does it take?
We always book 60 or 90 minutes sessions, nothing less. Your treatment will use other techniques such as massage during the session.
Do you use flame cups?
No we do not. We use vacuum suction cups which are plastic rather than glass as they are much lighter and easier to maneuver on your skin and do not require the use of flames which is much safer.
Does it cost more?
Essence of Health does not charge extra for this service, it is included in the price of your massage appointment.
Fiona and Carmen have been trained specifically by the founder of of the technique.
Jaime has also been trained in the technique and also traditional static cupping as part of her Myotherapy Studies .
